Prof. Dr. Necip Şimşek is a Turkish academic and the current Rector of Istanbul Ticaret University, Türkiye. He was appointed to this position by presidential decree in August 2024 and officially assumed office following the approval of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK).
Born in 1971, Prof. Dr. Şimşek completed his undergraduate studies in Mathematics at Fırat University in 1994. He went on to earn his Master’s degree in Mathematics from Harran University in 1996 and later obtained his Ph.D. in Mathematics from Van Yüzüncü Yıl University in 2004.
Prof. Dr. Şimşek has built a distinguished academic career primarily at Istanbul Ticaret University, where he has served in various key academic and administrative roles. These include positions such as Professor of Mathematics, Department Chair, Institute Director, Dean, and Vice Rector, reflecting his extensive leadership experience in higher education.
In addition to his university roles, he has also held national-level responsibilities, notably serving as a Vice President at the Measurement, Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM), Türkiye’s central examination authority.
Academically, Prof. Dr. Şimşek’s expertise lies in mathematics, computer science, and engineering-related fields, with research interests spanning areas such as mathematical analysis, computational sciences, and applied technologies.
As Rector, he emphasizes strategic development, academic quality, digital transformation, and strong university–industry collaboration. Under his leadership, Istanbul Ticaret University aims to enhance its international profile and contribute more effectively to both academia and the business world.
