Md Syful Islam is a PhD candidate in Sea and Maritime Law (DEHUKAM) at Ankara University, Türkiye, where he previously completed his LL.M. with highest distinction under the Türkiye Bursları scholarship scheme. He holds an LL.B. from the International Islamic University Chittagong and an LL.M. from Jagannath University, Dhaka.

His research focuses on the law of the sea, ocean governance, and emerging global challenges, including the blue economy, maritime security, marine environmental law, climate change, and artificial intelligence in international law. His work also addresses issues such as fisheries governance, maritime migration, and pollution control, reflecting a strong interdisciplinary orientation.

Syful has built a strong and rapidly expanding publication profile, with articles published in Web of Science, Scopus, and ESCI-indexed journals. His work appears in journals such as Marine Policy, International Environmental Agreements, Journal of the Indian Ocean Region, and Discover Sustainability, covering topics including maritime security, autonomous shipping, IUU fishing, and UNCLOS dispute mechanisms.

He currently serves as an Associate Editor of the Journal of South Asian Issues and works as an IT & Publication Coordinator at the Center for Policy and Social Research (CPSR), alongside his role as a Research Officer at Research & Integrated Thought (RIT). His responsibilities include managing editorial workflows, overseeing publications, and supporting research dissemination and institutional communication.

In addition to his academic contributions, Syful has extensive experience in research management and organizational leadership. He previously served as Operations Manager at UniV, where he led a team of over 400 members and managed projects in education, research, and digital platforms . He is also actively engaged in human rights initiatives and academic mentoring across South Asia.
